Herbal Medicine - FAQs

How does it work?
Each formula is made up to suit the individual person. Usually, a prescription comes in a powder form. One teaspoon is dissolved in boiling water, twice daily, allowed to cool and then taken.  Another way of taking the herbs is in pill form. These patented herbal pills are manufactured to a very high and safe standard. Easy to take, they are less strong than the powders, yet very helpful. The taking of Chinese herbs may be recommended, alongside acupuncture, to improve the benefits of a person’s treatment. Herbal medicine is particularly helpful in cases where symptoms have been around for a long time.
Are they safe to take with conventional medicines?
Yes. It is recommended that you take your herbs at a different time of the day.
Do they taste bad?
Actually, most people find they acquire a taste for them! It helps when you know your herbs are helping your condition. You will be a given enough powders/pills to last a few days to start with, to see how you respond. Then further prescriptions will be given with modifications – that is, herbs will be added or subtracted from the original prescription, depending on how you feel and how your symptoms respond.
What can Chinese herbal medicine treat?
Chinese herbs are used in conjunction with acupuncture to help with most of the conditions listed on the acupuncture page. Their use will be discussed at your first visit, to see how they can meet your particular needs and if they are required. Acupuncture alone may be sufficient.
